Ynglings field on the leeward mark

After the messed up first days in a light wind, the German Yngling women were able to shine in a good wind on the second day in Cadiz. It was a disappointing start for surfer Amelie Lux.

It could have been the day for Kristin Wagner's crew. In both races yesterday she led after the first cross. In the first race, however, Ulrike Schümann sailed to the top on the second cross and held it. Wagner fell back to third place. In the second race, Schümann was second at the first mark, she sailed past Wagner again on the second cross and won, Wagner held second place. After four races without strings, Schümann and Wagner are now seventh and eleven overall. The loser in the women's trio was Nadine Stegenwalner, who ranks 17th overall with places 8 and 28.

Mistral surfers in front of Cadiz

For the first time, the surfers intervened at the World Championships of all Olympic classes. After the first two races, Amelie Lux, silver medalist from Sydney, only ranks 33rd. Romy Kinzl is tied behind her on points. "I only got off to a moderate start and then got off badly as a lightweight," said Lux, describing the course of a difficult regatta day, which ended up in the middle of a world class field of 65 women surfers. The turns were slower with the strong wind than with the heavier top riders. To make matters worse, Amelie Lux "capsized" in the first race ten meters from the finish line when she took off on a wave in a gust. Another seven places were lost; at the finish she was 31.

The conditions in the second run were no different. "It was blowing around force six the whole day," reported Lux, "I haven't even had such conditions here during long-term training."

It was already too much for the star boats with the PreOlympics thirds Marc Pickel and Tony Kolb. Your start has been canceled. On the other hand, the surfers had to cross the track in the bay in front of Puerto Sant-Mariquael a second time. "After all, I still had everything under control," said the fifth place in the European Championship and PreOlympics, "and in the end I was happy not to have ended up further back." However, it was not enough for more than 35th place.

Sebastian Guter from Munich provided a ray of hope from a German point of view in the Mistral men’s tenth place overall.
