More than 80 of the most beautiful yachts in the history of sailing fought for fame and honor and last but not least for the coveted watches of the main sponsor. This season, "Moonbeam IV" in the Big Boats category, "Chinook" for the Vintage Yachts and "Ganbare" for the Classic Yachts entered the list of honor.

After victories in 2011, 2012 and 2015, the gaff cutter "Moonbeam IV", a 35 meter long yacht launched in 1914 at the Scottish shipyard William Fife & Son, won the prestigious season trophy in the Big Boats category for the fourth time. No other boat has ever set this record. At the same time, her French owner Xavier Tancogne and her skipper Mikaél Créach celebrated the tenth anniversary of their decision to put the famous yacht on which Prince Rainier of Monaco and his American bride Grace Kelly honeymooned back into service. The "Moonbeam IV", now stationed in Spain and sailing under the flag of the Real Club Nautico de Palms, took part in three of the four rounds this season. In Cannes she won all four races in her class, leaving behind such legendary big boats as "Moonbeam of Fife" (1903), "Halloween" (1926), "Elenof London" (2009) and "Cambria" (1928).

Even the gaff cutter "Chinook" could not have celebrated its hundredth birthday more splendidly. This 19.80 meter long yacht, built in 1916 at the American Herreshoff shipyard, is one of only four remaining representatives of the New York 40 class, of which a total of 14 were built between 1916 and 1926. This was the second time that the "Chinook" entered the Panerai Trophy list of honors for Vintage Yachts. This time it won under its owner Paolo Zannoni, who acquired it in 2015 from its previous owner, Graham Walker. The latter won the trophy several times with "Rowdy" (1916), also represented in Cannes. The "Chinook" took part in all four rounds of the 2016 regatta season and after a total of 14 races relegated other aspirants to overall victory, such as the Q-Class "Leonore" (1925) and "Rowdy" to the places behind her.

On its maiden voyage at the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge, the one-tonne "Ganbare" built from red cedar wood in 1973 at the Carl Eichenlaub shipyard in San Diego (USA) won the Panerai Trophy in the Classic Yachts category. The boat was the first yacht from the pen of the Californian Doug Peterson, who soon became one of the most famous designers in the world. In the 2016 season, the "Ganbare" competed in three rounds of the Panerai regatta series against such famous boats as "Naïf" (1973), "Il Moro di Venezia" (1976) and "Sagittarius" (1971).

Four timepieces were also presented to the winners in the main categories of the Régates Royales de Cannes. While "Moonbeam IV" won the Big Boats, Patrizio Bertelli's "Linnet" (1905) won the Vintage Yachts. She is the tenth of a total of 18 New York Yacht Club 30s built. At the Classic Yachts, the Bermuda sloop "Arcadia" from 1969 was allowed to take the watch home with it, while this honor was bestowed on the "Freyof Midgard" (2001) in the Spirit of Tradition category.

After a really spectacular race, the Challenge of Challenges, in which two yachts sail against each other and the first to cross the finish line, is declared the winner, with a draw between the schooner "Elenof London" and the "Cambria".

After three days and a total of eight races, the overall victory in the international 5.5 meter class went to the Dutch yacht "Feng Shui", while the "Pitch" from 2006 took the top podium with three wins in four races Tofinou secured 9.5.
