The tri "Geronimo"

Yesterday afternoon Olivier de Kersauson and his crew of ten circled Cape Horn in their 110-foot tri "Geronimo". Your chances of breaking the Jules Verne record have continued to decline.

A four-day storm with wind speeds of over 50 knots had previously pushed "Geronimo" further north and made it almost impossible for de Kersauson to reach the southern tip of America. Even the last three days to Cape Horn, "Geronimo" struggled with constant headwind, just as if the Tri was sailing around the earth the wrong way round.

Because de Kersauson and his crew had to deal with southerly winds during the entire Pacific crossing, they lost a lot of time. In a virtual comparison, they have only ten hours left of their two days and 19 hours ahead of the intermediate marks of the Jules Verne record holder Bruno Peyron. They are already 48 hours behind the intermediate times of Steve Fossett's new record, which has been improved since the beginning of the week.

De Kersauson now hopes that the Atlantic will welcome them better than the Pacific and that constant winds will allow them to make good progress after all.
