The location of the planned breakthrough at Zingst
The initiative “Boddereinstich Zingst now” has submitted 356 signatures to the community in Zingst as part of its citizens' initiative (see interview in YACHT 15/2013). The number is enough for the Zingst administration to deal with the matter. If there are no objections, the way to a referendum is free. Then the citizens of Zingst, who are entitled to vote, would have to vote “yes” or “no” as to whether they support a breakthrough between the Baltic Sea and the Barther Bodden.
The background to the debate is the absurd situation surrounding the nearby Darßer Ort emergency port. Sailors and sea rescuers have long wanted a reliable alternative port on the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula. About 50 miles east of Rostock there is no point of contact other than the port of emergency, which is subject to abstruse nature conservation regulations and which repeatedly silts up.

Observed by the ZDF camera, the signature list is handed over
The municipality of Zingst is skeptical about the matter, but has announced talks with the initiative according to YACHT information. The advance of a single group is counterproductive. Instead, the citizens' initiative should get involved in the planned "Zweckverband Lückenschluss Warnemünde-Stralsund". This association was initiated at a regional conference and is intended to work out an ideal solution for the region across the municipalities.
The ZDF will report on the events on Saturday from 5:05 p.m. in the “Länderspiegel”.
