The Polish Navikom shipyard has been the discount world champion for years. The company from Poznan now produces hundreds of small cruisers per year on a production area of 4500 square meters.

The company's success is the art of leaving things out. Regardless of whether it is 20 feet or 27 feet, every ship is consistently trimmed to a minimum, with almost no consideration for losses. With the result that there is no other shipyard that can present so much living space at such affordable prices: Entry starts at 8,000 euros for a 20-foot small cruiser, and even the Viko 35, which is not available in Germany, is said to cost less than 42,000 euros Adding euros to the books - that's around half of a Western European high-volume yacht.

The Viko 25 is no exception: with a starting price of 18,000 euros, it is on average a good 10,000 euros cheaper than comparable boats of the same size. For such sums, the need to save has to start early. The manufacturing quality as such is not objectionable. There is sufficient reinforcement under stressed points, the gelcoat surfaces are clean and even, the mounted stainless steel components, as always, without blame. But not much is built in either. Anyone who knows more opulently equipped boats will be amazed at how little one can actually get along with

And so the Viko 25 only conveys sailing fun to a limited extent. If you are a beginner looking for a boat that is primarily intended for sailing and only has to serve as a holiday vehicle or weekend cottage in the second instance, you are wrong with the Viko. Navikom's mania for savings has taken the actual sailing experience ad absurdum: At no time did the 25er exceed the 3-knot mark on the test day in 6 to 8 knots of wind, turning angles of less than 100 degrees were never measurable, not to mention a lively rowing feeling.

You can read in the current issue of YACHT whether the Viko 25 is still worth its sensationally low price.
