Sly Yachts' new ship is scheduled to float as early as June 2012. It meets a young, strong and current competition. Possible competing yachts are the XP-38 (test in YACHT No. 23/11), the Grand Soleil 39 (issue 1/2012) or the new Solaris One 37.

Sly Yachts has again engaged Studio Lostuzzi for the design - a proven and long-term collaboration, as also applied to the larger Sly 42 (test in YACHT No. 2/08). Which, by the way, served as a design template for the new model. When designing the deck, the shipyard made sure to find a division that was equally useful for cruising and regatta sailors. The layout of the fittings and the functions for trimming the sails are arranged in a conventional manner. That means: primary and secondary winches for genu and mainsheet (German Cupper), trim lines and halyards on the roof. The steering system works with two wheels, the stern is open to the aft.

The rig provides for a genum with a short overlap (106 percent). Active sailors can also set a Code Zero or a gennaker on the permanently attached bowsprit. The rig is made of aluminum as standard, an option made of carbon fiber is available, the boat is prepared for it. The Sly 38 is built as a sandwich construction with E-Glass and using epoxy resins. A carbon fiber floor assembly connects the forces from the rig with the keel in a frictional connection. The shrouds are attached to the outside, directly on the fuselage. With a weight of only 5.5 tons, she is lighter than most yachts in direct competition.

For the interior work, Sly Yachts builds on a conventional layout with the owner's cabin in the foredeck and a second double chamber at the rear. There is only one bathroom, but with a separate shower area and a wet closet for the oilskins. As a variant, a three-cabin version is also in preparation.

The shipyard has not yet calculated a price. IvicSaric has taken over the trade for Germany in Neu Lüdershagen. At the trade fair in Düsseldorf you can find it in Hall 17, Stand 19.
