An eternal bone of contention: Darßer Ort emergency port
Because “no financing concept could be found within the ministries”, as the “Ostsee-Zeitung” writes, the Zingst port project is now off the table. The island port was estimated at a good 30 million euros.

This could mean that the decades-long political posse around Darßer Ort could have come to an inglorious end. With this decision, a replacement for the silted up port of refuge in Darßer Ort is not in sight in the long term. A few months ago, Andreas Kuhn (CDU), the mayor of Zingst, was confident that the "small, fine and sophisticated" island port with around 100 berths on the western edge of the town would finally come. Kuhn's disappointment after the end is correspondingly great: "We would have pulled it off now," he said.

The silted up approach to the port of emergency Darßer Ort
The failure of such plans is a tradition at Darss. After the emergency port was incorporated into the core zone of the national park in the course of reunification through arbitrary demarcation, its end was virtually sealed. So-called environmentalists prevented the necessary maintenance measures from the port, where the rescue cruiser "Theo Fischer" is stationed near the accident-prone Kadetrinne.
Mainly for safety reasons, but also because of water tourism needs - there is a 50-mile gap in the marina network on the coast - every possible alternative was considered from then on: piercing the Bodden waters, two port variants in Prerow, now the option before the 3000-inhabitant- Zingst municipality. All of these plans are now in vain.

Meanwhile, the state government is striving for a minimal solution, a kind of sickle-shaped breakwater with the possibility of docking the rescue cruiser. According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the facility will be built at the Rainbow Camp near Prerow, only around two kilometers from the emergency port, but just outside the national park core zone. The rescuers have so far been rather skeptical of this emergency solution because of the lying conditions to be expected.
