Amelie Lux surfed in shape too late
Two sixth places today, seventh overall. As the only active member of the German sailing team, the Oldenburg native is constantly improving. But it will probably not be enough for more than the current overall rank.
20 points separate Lux from sixth place in another race to be sailed. D will probably no longer be feasible. "I'm glad I worked my way out of the hole," said the 27-year-old in the evening. At the beginning she lacked self-confidence, the preparation, especially the last month, was not optimal. "There was no move in the training group, I should have myself, but my coach should have kicked me more too." She had prepared together with Toni Wilhelm under coach Diederik Bakker.
The second Olympic Games, Lux won silver in Sydney, were mentally much more strenuous for her. "I wasn't so carefree anymore, I felt that there was a high pressure of expectation." Her body weight, which is often mentioned, at 48 kilograms she is the lightest athlete in the sailing games, was not the problem. "If you look at the whole series, we mostly had light to medium wind - so my conditions. I was just tense."
Toni Wilhelm couldn't get out of his negative series with the men. with a 20th and a 21st place today he is 29th overall (out of 34).
