From astronavigation to safety equipment, from means of communication to engine knowledge, from the Atlantic, Tierra del Fuego and the islands of the South Seas - an equally exciting and highly informative weekend lies behind the visitors of the 2nd Yacht Bluewater Symposium. That took place last weekend in the MarinHohe Düne in Rostock-Warnemünde.

Long-haul sailors and those who want to become one were able to expand their know-how in numerous lectures, seminars and practical workshops. Over a dozen experienced blue-water sailors and long-distance experts were available to answer questions on a wide variety of topics.

During the big gala dinner on Saturday evening, Burghard Pieske also talked about his current South Sea adventure in a lecture that roused the audience. Pieske is currently sailing with a replica of a Polynesian outrigger boat in stages from Taiwan to the South Pacific.

More than a dozen long-haul yachts are moored on the jetties of the Marinhatten. Eight crews alone came to Warnemünde under the banner of Trans-Ocean to share their wealth of experience with the conference participants and to give them an insight into life on board a blue water ship.

Several outfitters and dealers specializing in long-distance journeys also presented their products. Partly on land, partly the visitors also had the opportunity to try out equipment such as the Parasailor or the Catch-and-Lift recovery system in practical use on the Baltic Sea.
