Kurt Schmischke shaped the YACHT for over 40 years. Readers especially loved his watercolors and illustrations about the sailor Gustav in the stories of Wolfgang J. Krauss.

The Kehdinger Küstenschiffahrts-Museum in Wischhafen presents 35 works by the artist. Kurt Schmischke was born in Masuria in 1923 and died at the age of 81 on September 30, 2004 in Hamburg.

Because of his love for ships, he moved to the Hanseatic city after the war. The YACHT readers were particularly familiar with his humorous watercolors in the typical Schmischke style, which gave some rather dry historical stories the necessary flavor. During his lifetime he exhibited his works regularly at the "hanseboot".

He also drew books for young people and calendars. His snapshots of the "Gorch Fock" and the "SeCloud" were enthusiastically received by windjammer enthusiasts.

In recent years Schmischke has mostly drawn calm landscapes by the sea as well as pensive harbor scenes in small-format watercolors.

Its exhibits will be on display from August 4th to November 19th, 2006. During the holiday season, until August 31, the museum is open every day except Monday, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
