Fifty-five teams from eight nations met in Pulan on the Croatian Adriatic coast to determine the European champion in the 505. Wolfgang Hunger and Holger Jess from the Kieler Yacht Club lived up to their role as favorites and put down a flawless series (2, 2, 6, 5, 1, 4, 1) so that they no longer had to compete in the last race.
Second came - somewhat surprisingly - the Danes Jan Saugmann and Morten Ramsbæk, who were never able to put Hunger / Jess in serious danger.
The Croatian 470 crack Dario Klib was able to make full use of his home advantage in rotating thermal winds and unsteady electricity. Although it was his first time as a 505 helmsman, it was enough for third place. He relegated the five-time world champion Krister Bergström to fourth place.
The German 505 sailors underlined their performance potential by winning the U25 junior category (Jens Findel and Johannes Tellen on overall rank eighteen) and with the best women's team (Franzisk Unkelbach and Caroline von Dahl, overall rank 19). With this result, the Germans can look forward to the World Cup in their own country, which will be held in August 2005 in Warnemünde.
