The "Bonduelle" of the leader Jean Le Cam

After almost 57 days at sea, the hunt around the world is entering a new phase. The Pacific is done for the leaders, now the course is set for the South Atlantic. The front runner is a good five days faster than the 2001 winner.

Jean Le Cam leads with over 190 nautical miles ahead of the French Vincent Riou ("PRB"), who is currently second, while British Mike Golding ("Ecover") is in third place, almost 257 nautical miles behind. Le Cam owes its lead over the previous best time mainly to a low pressure area along which he was able to steer an almost perfect east course, the shortest route.

The chasing duo is thus pushed into the role of hunters even more than before, but could now benefit from a strong north-westerly wind, while Le Cam slows down a bit at the Cape. Riou last made 23 knots and covered 402 nautical miles in the past 24 hours.
