
1st place: the crew of the "Norddeutsche Vermögen Hamburg" from the "Hamburgische Verein Seefahrt"
In a solemn ceremony in the Hamburg Maritime Museum by Prof. Peter Tamm, the winners of the Youth Prize of the Deep Sea Sailing Foundation were honored. The Hamburgische Verein Seefahrt took first place and the Lübeck Yacht Club came second.
The foundation, established in 1998, honors sailing trips of at least 1,000 miles for sporty sailing trips, whereby at least half of the crew must be 25 years or younger. A proven high level of seamanship is also essential.
The regatta participation in the “Round Britain Race” (4th place in their group, despite oar damage) brought the crew of “Norddeutsche Vermögen Hamburg” around skipper Volker Linzer to win the youth award. The crew was on average just 21 years old and was characterized by meticulous trip preparation, discipline and particular ambition. she completed the 1,750 miles in 11 days.

2nd place: the crew of the "Dixi" from the "Lübeck Yacht Club"
The Lübeck Yacht Club was awarded for the 5,000-mile cruise of the "Dixi" from Hamburg to the Caribbean. Of the 18 participants, 14 met the age criterion, including skipper Felix Oehme. Above all, the stage trip across the ocean was a logistical peak performance.
The foundation plans to announce its next youth award in two years.
