In just one year of preparation time, the passionate cruiser and his wife turned a used boat without a rig into a blue water yacht. The jobs were quit, the cars sold, the apartment given up, equipment purchased, and blue water seminars attended. The young couple want to leave in May.
It was shortly after their wedding that the decision was made to set off together. Judith and Sönke Roever quickly agreed on a trip to New Zealand, almost exactly to the other end of the world.
The old boat, an Ohlson 8: 8, was too small for that. Only the name has remained: "Hippopotamus". The friendly-looking hippopotamus is also emblazoned on the bow of the Gib'Se106. It was made fit for the long journey at a record-breaking speed.
