The four-time Olympic medalist and America's Cup winner was unbeatable at the world championship of three-man keelboats off Sydey. Victory was never in danger in ten races.
At the end of the world championship over a total of ten races, the Swiss owner Ronald Pieper and his helmsman Jochen Schümann had a lead of 15 points over the runner-up. Even before the happy ending, the Swiss Patrick Huguenin predicted from the fourth-placed “Blade Runner”: “Schümann is in top form. He has a great chance of winning the world championship."
This was preceded by a situation in which the "Ali Baba" led before the wind, got caught in a fishing net and got out of hand. That brought the "Artemis XII" the victory and the big lead in this run as well. Schümann & Co achieved six first places, two second and one third. The only German boat was Henning Ueck's “Windliese” as 19.
