The French record hunter Francis Joyon gets the next entry at the World Sailing Speed Record Council (WSSR): With the trimaran "Idec Sport" Joyon crossed the finish line at Lizard Point this morning at 1.37 am (UTC) and thus wrote another record chapter.

61 years old and better than ever: Francis Joyon on "Idec Sport"
For the classic North Atlantic passage from New York (Ambrose Light House) to England (Lizard Point) Joyon only needed a fabulous 5 days, 2 hours and 7 minutes and thus undercut his own record by 49 minutes. Joyon set the old record in June 2013 with the previous "Idec". Back then it took Joyon 5 days, 2 hours and 56 minutes.

The trimaran "Idec Sport" makes history again with its skipper Francis Joyon
With the fast ride across the Atlantic, Joyon more than successfully completed his first solo passage on the trimaran without the usual intensive preparations. Originally he just wanted to beat the record of the luxury liner "Queen Mary 2", which is now expected in Southampton on Thursday.

From one record to the next: skipper and solo sailor Francis Joyon
Just in January of this year, Joyon and his crew broke the record for the fastest circumnavigation of the world with "Idec Sport", circling the earth in 40 days, 23 hours, 30 minutes and 30 seconds and winning the Jules Verne Trophy. Francis Joyon just celebrated his 61st birthday on May 28th and has now climbed one of his many career peaks at sea again.
