All over Europ is currently being worked on sensational yacht building projects - spectacular new ships are being built after old cracks. The trend towards replicas that are true to the original is becoming increasingly popular.

The causes of the development are relatively clear. Relatively well-preserved classic yachts that are suitable for a refit are rare. And ships with a retro look - that is, modern boats with a historical look - are an abomination for those who advocate pure teaching. At the same time, however, the fan base for classics is growing. The solution without such concessions: classics reconstructed down to the last detail.

The portfolio of such projects, some of which have already been implemented, includes boats of all sizes from dinghies to J-Class. For example, the American Mike Hanyi, who lives in Finland, recently watered a wonderful copy of the five-meter-long “Riviera” by the great designer Nathanael Herreshoff. Josef Martin on Lake Constance is making a replica of a Burgess eight, as it was once delivered by Abeking & Rasmussen in Lemwerder. And Huismann in Holland is currently resurrecting the J-Class "Endeavor II", which was scrapped in 1968. And, and, and - from Russia to the Caribbean there are many such projects, one more beautiful than the other.

What drives the initiators? Where is the line between replica and retro boat? Why is a new building often cheaper than a refit? You can read the answers to these and other questions as well as a lot of background information about developments among the new old in the new YACHT. The booklet will be available in stores from September 19th.
