The America's Cupper GBR 52 and NZL 39, which GermanyOne wants to use for sailing, have arrived in Kiel. "We have thus created the basis that we have always strived for," explains Roland Gäbler, sports director and PR manager at GermanyOne. "For the first time in German sailing history, modern IACC yachts will be sailing in German waters."
"We have come closer to this goal faster than expected," says Alexander Bruhn, Managing Director of The Friendship Racing Division, responsible for management and logistics at GermanyOne. The campaign's marketing activities are also making headway. "With our GermanyOne concept 2007/2011 we received positive signals from sponsors, investors and the media," said Bruhn.
In order to be able to set sails in the Kiel Fjord shortly, extensive work has already been carried out in the past few days by the Supersail agency, which is making the yachts available to GermanyOne for training purposes. In the next few weeks further changes will be made in cooperation with The Friendship.
"We want to offer young German sailors the opportunity to sail America's Cup yachts. With these boats, the basis has been created. We will build a young team and we will start for Germany in 2011 at the latest. We are serious about this campaign. You will see that we have the right concept, "explain Roland Gäbler and Alexander Bruhn unanimously.
