Where there used to be only rubble and coal, today sailors can pursue their hobby on beautiful lakes. Even though almost a decade will pass before these are completely flooded, it is already evident how beautiful this area will one day be and how beautiful it is in part.
The area will cover around 140 square kilometers when the flooding of all lakes around Senftenberg and Hoyerswerd is completely completed in 2015. The highlight of this water landscape, which extends over parts of Brandenburg and Saxony, will be channels that connect nine of the 21 lakes and thus invite you to go hiking in the water.
The first sailing clubs have already been founded in the Lusatian lake landscape - sometimes years before they were allowed to go on the lakes with their dinghies and yachts, sometimes even before even a drop of water had flowed into the holes in the ground.

The YACHT took a closer look at the emerging dream area. You can find out what infrastructure already exists for sailors in Lusatia and what is currently developing there in the new YACHT, issue 23/2007, now at the kiosk.
