Loss of mast due to collision: The offshore service ship "Achiever" drove against the sailing yacht "Vijaya"
Last weekend came to a fatal end for the owners of a Dutch sailing yacht that was moored in the port of Barhöft. The Danish offshore service ship, the catamaran "MV Achiever", hit the Hallberg-Rassy "Vijaya" after entering the port. According to the state water police in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the special ship had a defect in the engine and could not initiate the planned turning maneuver. Stopping and driving backwards was therefore also impossible.
In order to avoid further damage to the pleasure craft lying in the harbor, the rudder on board the "Achiever" was set hard to port and an emergency stop of the engine was initiated. It rammed the yacht, whose mast broke and crashed onto the pier. Overall, there was material damage of around 50,000 euros to the boat. It was pressed against a motor catamaran, which was found to have minor property damage. Neither on board the two pleasure craft nor on the pier were people at the moment of the accident, so no one was injured.
The offshore catamaran was set to assess the damage and the incident was recorded as a marine casualty by the Stralsund water police inspection.
