Immediately after the arrival of the Maxi-Tris in February, when they narrowly missed the record, it became clear that Francis Joyon was extremely satisfied with his crew of just five and wanted to try again. Now it's official: Today the team announced the second attempt, from October "Idec Sport" will go on standby for a good weather window.
Skipper Francis Joyon was full of praise for the German and his contribution in the last non-stop record attempt: "Boris sails a lot with crews, but also has a lot of solo experience, so he suits us well. He is a personable, friendly person, who can do an incredible amount of things. He's a very good all-rounder, has sailed small monohulls and maxi multihulls and has plenty of experience with the hostile side of the Southern Ocean. He is like a Swiss Army Knife, simply extremely versatile!"
The team for the record attempt
Somewhat surprising is the news that weather router Marcel van Triest will be there again, after the last record attempt there were disagreements between him and Francis Joyon. But apparently they have come to the conclusion that a second edition can be done better. The Dutch router will come on board for a longer training session to get to know the crew and the boat better. Dvan Triest is currently considered to be one of the best weather routers, which is certainly a wise decision.
Last but not least, the skipper, known to be a bit taciturn, surprised in the video for the new edition of the record attempt with the insight that as a one-handed sailor he is not always the best communicator and organizer and wants to give the crew more freedom. It all sounds as if the crew sat down and analyzed exactly where something can still be extracted.
The new edition should start as early as possible: "There are not as many good weather windows in the period from October to February as we learned last time. We will therefore use the first halfway promising one." In addition, Joyon may know that the big competitor "Spindrift" will start again with DonnBertarelli and Yann Guichard. It's no secret that Joyon would have preferred to start the last edition without "spindrift" directly in the neck. Boris Herrmann is more relaxed about it, after the record attempt he said: The rivalry only made us faster! "So fans of the Monster Tris can look forward to an exciting winter again.
