Half a century, full sails. The field of the anniversary regatt with Nautor's first yacht "Tarantella" (4th from right)
From September 11th to 18th, it's going to be all over again. The curtain falls in front of Porto Cervo in the anniversary year of Nautor's Swan, probably the most well-known serial shipyard in the world. 130 yachts, all built in distant Finland, will be competing in Sardinia for the Rolex Swan Cup - the final and climax of the celebrations to mark the 50th anniversary of the brand.
Many a fan, however, will have seen the smaller and more modest Turku anniversary regatta as the real highlight of this season, which is so special for the Finns. It took place in August. "Only" 110 ships had registered there, and some things looked more down-to-earth than in the jet-set Mecca of Sardinia. But that didn't detract from the atmosphere, as the pictures that YACHT photographer Klaus Andrews produced on site show.
