The "Freydis" in Alaska
Heide and Erich Wilts have been on a trip with their third "Freydis" for five years, and they spent the last two seasons in Alaska "full of enthusiasm". Now that you have explored your personal dream destination "extensively", a big question arises: What is the next step?
The usual alternative would be: through the Pacific southwards and on the usual routes home to Germany, "in stages back via British Columbia, California and the South Seas to Australia and from there via the South India, Madagascar and the Cape of Good Hope to Europe". The unusual route: the Northwest Passage - "an extreme trip".
Skipper Erich Wilts had been toying with the second variant for a long time, the opportunity was too big and too tempting: he would not get to the ideal starting point for this trip anytime soon, if at all again. "We're at a crossroads," he said.
Now the decision has been made, namely for the trip in the high latitudes. In the coming year, viNordwestpassage is to go to Greenland in four stages, and from there back home via Greenland, Iceland, Scoresby Sound, Jan Mayen, Spitsbergen and Tromsø in 2018.
The trip plan and further information can be found on the "Freydis" blog.
