Andreas Steffen, skipper of the "Strega" is urgently looking for a crew
Four German yachts are taking part in the World ARC. After the Atlantic Passage within the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC), the next stage from St. Luci to Panaman will begin on January 23rd. The "Strega" is still looking for a good crew.
Skipper Andreas Steffen, 49-year-old board member of a Berlin real estate company, drove his "Strega" to ARC after only 11 days and 23 hours in the Marinvon Rodney Bay on St. Lucia. This made him the fastest of the four German teams participating in the World ARC.
However, his dream of circumnavigating the world is suddenly on the brink because his friend has to break off the trip in the Caribbean on an unscheduled basis. "I thought about what to do for a long time, and the progress of the journey is absolutely paramount for me," he says. Thoughts of giving up, repatriation or hanging around in the Caribbean, according to Steffen, did not develop any charm during his deliberations.
Andreas Steffen is therefore looking for fellow sailors - one or two. It would be an advantage if applicants could identify themselves as competent sailors, which does not mean that ocean crossings have to be in their personal logbook. If you are interested, you should above all enjoy sailing, both cruising between islands, but also long distances such as the passage through the Pacific to the Marquesas.
It would of course be good if someone could spontaneously find someone who would like to do the whole circumnavigation, which will last until April 2009. According to Andreas Steffen, it would also be conceivable to sail along on individual sections such as the Caribbean - Ecuador, Ecuador - Marquesas, South Seas - Australia etc.
As information for any applicants: YACHT editor Mathias Müller met Andreas Steffen on Gran Canary's very friendly, easy-going and serious contemporaries. Andreas Steffen expressly emphasizes that this is not a berth charter. Means: In addition to flight costs and board cash, there is probably nothing or not much to do. A good offer for people with wanderlust
