Sailing in the hot winter: the 2016 Airlie Beach Race Week in Queensland
After the rather cool rainy summer in our latitudes, these pictures should make you particularly jealous: permanent sun, lukewarm coral sea, blue waves, a silky wind - even in the dead of winter! It's almost cheeky. But that's what the sailors off Queensland call everyday life, even if it is currently the "coldest" season. And these days, the Airlie Beach Race Week is being held off the coast of Queensland, a race that was launched 27 years ago to promote the opening of a local coffee shop.
The regatt is now one of the big events in the Australian sailing scene. Well over 100 yachts are at the start and cruise to the Whitsunday Islands to experience what we can usually only dream of: sailing fun in almost tropical conditions.
But Invidia, envy, is known to be one of the seven deadly sins. So let's practice enjoying the following photos from down under: In the picture gallery you can see the most beautiful and spectacular scenes of this year's Airlie Beach Race Week.
