The structural reform of the top sports association entered a new phase last weekend with a symbolic handover of keys in Schilksee. In the presence of the Schleswig-Holstein Prime Minister Torsten Albig, Kiel's Lord Mayor Ulf K Merger, the sports director Gerwin Stöcken and the KYC chairman Carsten Krage, Andreas Lochbrunner took over the premises of the new DSV sailing center as President of the German Sailing Association.
Commitment to promoting top-class sport
"One day before the Kiel Week and seven weeks before the Olympic Games, we as the German Sailing Association are committed to our central task of promoting top German sailors in the best possible way," said Lochbrunner. The Kiel Fjord is one of the best sailing areas in the world. "With our commitment at the federal base in Kiel we are bundling our strengths and in future we will have a direct line to the sailors. We are thus creating the basic prerequisite for our athletes to be successful at the upcoming Olympic Games and World Championships."
Part of a new association structure
Among other things, a training and seminar center as well as a modern strength and athletic area are being built on around 800 square meters. The renovation work should be finished by autumn 2016. The DSV departments for competitive sailing, competition sailing, technology and youth will then move from Hamburg to the Olympic Center in Kiel. There is also a new training academy.
