5th of August. Birgit has moved in with Anholt
Deep Birgit troubles the sailors at the beginning of August. For almost 24 hours it blew over the Kattegat with a force of 10 winds. As many as 12 Beaufort were measured on Bornholm. YACHT reporter Carsten Kemmling experienced the storm during his family trip on Anholt.
The experience could be frightening. You don't have to have flying water in the port. And certainly not at sea. The fact that there are such storms in the Baltic Sea is frightening.
On the other hand, the experience report is an example of how the sailing community sticks together when it matters. The willingness to help is enormous before the approaching storm.
When the storm withdrew, there was no serious damage to the port of Anholt. The cruising fleet survived everything well. And this knowledge makes the crews even more confident that they are prepared for similar experiences.
It's good to know that in an emergency, small-minded neighborhood disputes no longer play a role. Sailing connects people after all.
