Night departure: Goss' family crew
He is "Cornishman" with all his heart, a man from the poor region of England. Pete Goss wants to reach Australia with a family crew and an original replica of a 150-year-old Mounts Bay Lugger.
The fishermen at that time did not sail the historic voyage, which was actually an act of nautical violence, out of sensationalism. They mainly sailed out of poverty. They wanted to escape the barren tip in the extreme west of England and make their fortune as gold prospectors in Australia - in Australia there was a gold rush back then. No wonder that extreme sailor and native Corwall fan Goss was inspired by travel stories about the trip. The four-person crew mainly includes family members from Goss, including his 13-year-old son Eliot. The composition of the crew is more like the original by mistake. Because in 1854 the "Mystery" crew also consisted of half-brothers and brothers-in-law.
The two-masted lugger is just before Cape Finisterre in the Bay of Biscay. The crossing of the bay is perhaps slower than Goss is used to - the start in Newlyn / Cornwall took place on October 20th. However, the slow progress of Goss (who only navigates astronomically) should correspond to the desire for authenticity.
