Sailing in Belize. Find out more about dream spots for long-distance drivers in the Caribbean

On the second weekend in June (June 10th to 12th, 2016) there is concentrated know-how in Rostock-Warnemünde for long-distance sailors and everyone who wants to become one or has always dreamed of it. Numerous top-class experts and experienced blue-water sailors will hold lectures on a wide variety of topics for two days in the congress center, on the port area and on the jetties of the MarinHohe Düne, as well as pass on their knowledge in several practical workshops.

The seminar program includes topics such as sailing with the Passat, energy supply, the ideal rig, navigation and communication at sea, sailing with children and yacht piracy. In addition, there will be territorial presentations for the Atlantic, the Baltic Sea and the Caribbean.

Participate and lend a hand yourself

In workshops, the conference participants can familiarize themselves with boat engines, they can learn splicing and rigging, have the necessary safety equipment demonstrated on board, practice using a sextant, take a one-and-a-half-hour course in emergency care on board or during an afternoon cruise try out different sailing cloakrooms for the trade routes in the Baltic Sea.

One of the star guests of the event is Burghard Pieske, who has just finished the first stage of his current South Sea expedition. Also Jimmy Cornell, who sailed through the Northwest Passage with his "AventurIV" last year. And also Johannes Erdmann, who will tell freshly about his adventures and experiences of his soon to end two-year long cruise to the Caribbean.

The Worldcruising Club will provide information about its numerous flotilla trips for long-distance sailors and, on request, will subject yachts of seminar participants to a free safety check, as is also the rule for participants in the annual Atlantic Rally for Cruisers.

The German ocean sailing association Trans-Ocean is also on site. The long-time TO members Marlene and Bert Frisch will anchor with their "homecoming" in Hohe Düne and set up a TO base on board for the duration of the conference. In other words, they are available to all interested parties for questions and answers about the TO, but also about long-distance sailing in general.

Exclusive inwater boat show

In addition to lectures and workshops, there will be a small but fine exhibitor fair on the port area with dealers and service providers specializing in long-haul equipment. New and tried-and-tested long-haul yachts, including models from Allures, Hallberg-Rassy, Sirius and Catana, can be viewed on the maritime piers.

There is also a lot of first-hand knowledge in the port. Almost a dozen experienced long-haul crews, including several circumnavigators, will come to the YACHT-Bluewater with their boats and ask the participants to share their experiences on board.

The two and a half day event is rounded off with an informal get-together on Friday evening and a festive gala dinner on Saturday evening.
