Last summer, the 48-year-old covered a total of 2951 nautical miles from Lanzarote via the Azores, the English Channel, the North Sea and Elbe to Hamburg. Most of the time he was single-handed on his Contess32 "Dill".
For this trip he has now received the gold medal from the cruiser division of the DSV in the high seas category. In addition, the trip was awarded the "Arthur Doerwaldt Memorial Prize" - for the best sailing trip in 2015 in a boat under ten meters in length.
At the award ceremony in the Hamburg Museum für Völkerkunde, numerous other crews were honored in front of over a hundred guests: Hans Böbs from the yacht club Fischereihafen Travemünde also received a gold medal in the high seas category and the Commodore Prize from the cruiser department. He received the double honor for his 4,965 nautical mile trip to the Azores and further along the Irish west coast to the Hebrides, Caledonian Canal, Skagerrak and Kattegat to the Baltic Sea.
The A. G. Nissen Prize for the best North Sea trip of 2015 was won by Peter Lühr and his wife Jytte. The "Silver Seagull" young talent award went to the Kiel Yacht Club for a Baltic Sea squadron trip with three yachts, the family award for a particularly child-friendly tone went to Rainer Taprogge from the Blankeneser Segel Club.
