Volker Christmann
Have you been looking for the one book for years, the only one that has unfortunately not been available for a long time? You can be helped!
Christmas is around the corner. And when you sharpen the pencil for the wish list, they go through the writer's head: the beautiful things in life. Hobbies that are all too often denied in everyday life.
If the person who ponders in this way is a sailor, he is very likely to think of one or the other sailing book. And often the only reason it is not in the cupboard is because it is no longer available in bookstores.
Help can be provided in such cases. YACHT employee Volker Christmann runs Germany's only sailing sport antiquarian.
The most expensive item on offer is currently a complete set of the YACHT from the years 1904 - 1943. Christmann knows from experience that around 10,000 euros are the enthusiast value of these issues. But such high-priced items are the exception:
"The second-hand bookshop is not a business," says the lover of all maritime printed works, who deals with books purely out of passion. But Christmann ideally benefits from the trade. Whoever buys everything for his trade that is maritime and printed on paper, he always finds a rare piece for his own collection.
And it can be seen. Probably the largest compilation of sailing literature in Germany now fills an entire house. There are real treasures in rank and file. Many so often that the passionate cruiser Christmann sells them - fortunately, because as I said, Christmas is just around the corner!
