Alexander Peutz (The One) and Odo Jergitsch (The Other)

Two nameless men on a sailing boat in the middle of the Norwegian archipelago, one and the other. Are they friends, one living and one dead, or one and the same person? One tries to explain himself, the other tries to understand.

One cannot stand the noises and the company of others. But when he is alone he cannot stand himself, feels heavy as a stone and longs for his disappearance. The other is afraid of the open sea, but accepts life as it is. Both have to realize that words are always improper and cannot express what is essential.

They drift in their boat until they anchor in a small bay and experience a brief moment of satisfaction, maybe even happiness - while eating, drinking and talking together.

Eventually, however, they cast off. One of them steers further and further out to sea. Suddenly he disappeared. He is gone. Away with the wind. He is the wind.

Fosse writes in his foreword that the play takes place on an imaginary sailing boat. Wulf Twiehaus's production also plays with this ambivalence between abstraction and concretion. The stage design arouses boat associations without specifying them too much. The director is interested in the shimmering, fluctuating nature of the text and its characters. To reinforce the special atmosphere inherent in Fosse's pieces due to their reduced musical language, Stefan Baumann will accompany the stage action live on the cello.
