Start on the fjord

"That was the toughest Blue Ribbon regatta I have ever experienced," commented race director Claus-Otto Hansen of the final regatta of the 97th Flensburg Fördewoche. Despite the stormy wind, 56 boats reached the destination.

While on Thursday, during the SONWIK Cup, optimal conditions with sun and 3-4 winds from the north-west had made sailors' hearts beat faster, the 17111 Transit-Logistic-Cup on Friday was dominated by torrential rain. At 5 Beaufort from the southwest, it started punctually with the starting gun and only stopped again when he returned to the port - just as punctually. The Sonwik Cup was won by the "JuxBox", an X-382 from the Hanseatic Yacht School, with Jan Meincke at the helm, in front of the "Extasy" (X 41) from Thomas Brügge from Kiel and the "Elan" (Swan 48) from Harald Tree from Hamburg. The Flensburg-based Christoph Avenarius (Flensburg Sailing Club) landed in 4th place with his "Il Vitello", a Comet 45. In the ORC yachts category, Jan Schmidt's "Bostik Bad Boys" (Melges 24) from Schleswig won, ahead of the " Haiopei "by Jörn Petry (Flensburg Sailing Club). The 17111 Transit-Logistic-Cup was won by the Speedy Gonzales (Dehler 39) from Werner Jensen from Schilksee.

The "Flensburg Pilsner Cup" with the "Blue Ribbon" races on Saturday became a real challenge. Already in the early morning whistles and organs were whistling in the harbor through masts and shrouds and the fjord was as turbulent as it seldom. The sea was seething between the mostly heavily reefed boats. Sunny weather and 7 winds from WNW, with 8 gusts, promised a stormy race. At the briefing, the race committee once again pointed out that everyone sailed on their own responsibility and should check for themselves whether they felt they could meet these requirements. At 10:20 a.m., when the route, which had been shortened to 25 nautical miles, went to the Flensburg outer fjord in the direction of Neukirchen, 85 of 105 registered yachts were at the start. In the end 56 boats reached the finish line, for which this race had evidently become a very special experience, at least afterwards you saw many weather-beaten, beaming, relaxed faces under tousled sailor's manes.

At the end of the day, race director Hansen was happy that most of them had apparently assessed themselves correctly and that there had been no serious accidents or even injuries, but the sailmakers and boat builders should also have been a little happy these days.

In the end it was the "Rarotonga" (Swan 46) by Werner Lemmel from Berlin that coped best with the stormy conditions and was able to take home the "Flensburger-Pilsner-Cup" this year.

There were no surprises in terms of the results of the ratings for the "Blue" and "Blue-Yellow" ribbons after the possible competitors, the 2006 winner of the "Blue-Yellow" ribbon, the "Scho-Ka-Kola" from Dr. Uwe Lebens from Hamburg and the "Lotta" of FSC chairman Jochen Frank had to stay in the port with material damage. The "blue-yellow" ribbon for the fastest foreign yacht won, despite a mainsail torn and only under red emergency sails, the "Outsider" from Tilmar Hansen from Kiel, weather-hardened "Blue Race participant", after 3 hours, 6 minutes and 8 seconds. The "Blue Ribbon" for the fastest yacht based on the Flensburg Fjord went unchallenged to the defending champion and also North Atlantic "Blue Race participant" Christoph Avenarius (FSC) with his "ILVitello".

The most successful ship of the Fördewoche was the 2007 IMS World Champion, Christian Plump's "BelugSailing Team" (KYC) with Leif Tom Loose at the helm. The "Nautor Swan Baltic SeChallenge" was able to win the "Audacious", a Swan 51 from Norway, and the one that was advertised for the first time this year, with prize money of? The "Tutima" (DK 46) from Tom Ebert from Teterow won the ORC Germany Cup with an endowment of 1000.00.
