The SAP Extreme Sailing Team won the Qingdao Olympic area for the first time
The upward trend was already evident in the last few outings. Now the Danish skippers Jes Gram-Hansen and Rasmus Køstner and their SAP Extreme Sailing Team have won an act in the Extreme Sailing Series for the first time. After two exceptionally foggy days of sailing in the Olympic district off Qingdao, the Danes had achieved a 23-point lead by the morning of the last day.
Cheers in the Danish team after their first victory in the Extreme Sailing Series
The final, however, turned out to be demanding, with northerly winds between three and 20 knots transforming the speed of the fast catamarans into an obstacle course. Again and again unpredictable gusts fell upon the fleet. The Danes stumbled, but they didn't fall - a total of five race wins over three days were enough for them to be overall victory. Overjoyed, Jes Gram-Hansen said: "The victory here was fantastic for us. We have wanted to win an act for so long and have come very close to winning several times. But today everything was just right. We are proud to represent our country here, and we're proud of this victory here because we've had so much support, not least from SAP, but also from our friends and families at home. It's just fantastic."

In the end, the duel for second place was close to. The Gazprom Team Russik came very close to the favorite team The Wave, Muscat. But in the decisive final race, the young Russians received a penalty at the windward mark, which not only cost them the victory that was still possible at the time, but also cost them second place. And so Phil Robertson (Australia), Igor Lisovenko and the team had to be content with third place, but they were also happy about it. "It was a bit unfortunate for us, but we are clearly excited about third place. It's a big step for the team."
For the former serial winner Leigh McMillan and his team The Wave, Musact, victory in the double-valued last race was no longer enough to jump to the highest podium. The Red Bull Sailing Team finished fourth.
