Whoever is ahead at the finish is determined by a racing value - how this is made up, explains the new ORC homepage

In order to sail regattas with different yachts, a measurement or compensation system is required. While the empirical IRC rating is predominant in Great Britain and the English-speaking countries, regattas in the Baltic Sea and the Mediterranean Sea are sailed according to the formula-based ORCi. This complex measurement system, according to which world and European championships are also advertised, is administered by the Offshore Racing Congress (ORC).

In-depth insights extensively prepared

This administrative authority is now presenting a new website. At the still valid address www.orc.org, sailors, officials and interested parties can now get a deeper insight into the world of survey sailing. The highlight: The menu items "Measurement", "Rating" and "Scoring" offer well-founded and easily accessible insight into the de facto highly complex ORCi formula. This is of particular interest to already active ORCI sailors, as the new website gives the whole matter a new level of transparency.

Easier access - increased interest?

"We hope to enable easier access to our system via our new website," said Bruno Finzi, chairman of the ORC. The new site is therefore not aimed exclusively at sailors at Grand Prix level. The stripped-down ORC measurement certificate "ORC Club" is equally well received, as it uses the same parameters as the complex "ORC International" certificate.
